About Microdermabrasion / Hydrabrasion
Every 4 weeks, our skin cell turnover takes place where the dead skin calls are naturally exfoliated from the upper layers. However, not all dead skin cells are removed and these remain on the skin, making your skin appear dull, dehydrated, while looking and feeling rough. The build-up of dead skin cells can also cause congestion, leading to an increase in blackheads and breakouts.
Microdermabrasion is a gentle, exfoliating treatment that physically buffs away the dead skin cells off to reveal your new, glowing skin and to clear congestion.
Hydrabrasions provide an even deeper clean by flushing water into your skin and pores to further remove dirt and grease.
By revealing your new skin and providing hydration, light is reflected off the skin, making your skin appear bright and radiant. Collagen and elastin are also stimulated during these gentle treatments to soften fine lines and wrinkles.
Our Hydrabrasion uses a wet and dry system to exfoliate the skin with an abrasive diamond tip. The diamond tip suctions the dirt, grease, pollution, and dead skin cells off the skin while washing it at the same time to provide an even deeper clean. As new skin is exposed, this allows for active ingredients to be better absorbed into the skin for increased benefits.
Your skin and skin concerns will be thoroughly assessed by our Cosmetic Physician and Registered Nurse. Before starting your treatment, your skin will be cleansed twice, and a dry diamond tip will be used to perform passes on your skin whilst suctioning your pores and skin at the same time. If you would like to receive the hydrabrasion treatment, another tip will be applied before doing passes on your skin where water will be introduced before being suctioned out along with your dirt and oils. After your microdermabrasion or hydrabrasion treatment, a hydrating mask or customised peel can be applied to treat your specific skin concern. Soothing lotion and SPF 50+ will be applied after your treatment to protect your skin.
Your skin should feel smoother and your pores will be more cleared. Approximately 5-7 days after your treatment, your skin may flake which is expected, and will gradually exfoliate off your skin. Over time with consistent treatments, your fine lines will soften and pigmentation will improve, where your skin will have fewer breakouts as well.
Expected side effects include mild erythema that may last approximately 30min – 1 hour. You may experience mild breakouts as the treatment will purge your skin and bring out your dirt and oils from deep inside towards the surface, however, this will gradually disappear, leaving your skin cleaner and clearer with fewer congestions.
Results vary depending on your skin type, condition, desired results, and lifestyle. Generally, a monthly treatment is recommended for a deep clean, however, if you have skin concerns such as acne or pigmentation, you may require 6 or more treatments where results are enhanced with chemical peels and active skincare.
Avoiding sun exposure is essential to maintain results and prevent complications, as well as reapplying SPF 50+ sunscreen every 2 hours when outdoors. Avoid strenuous exercise and heat-inducing activities at least 2 days after treatments, and avoid other dermal treatments for 2 weeks as well after treatment. If needed, brightening serums need to be continued 5 days after treatment to maintain results and prevent complications. Active skincare (Vitamin A, Vitamin C, acids etc) is also essential to enhance and maintain results, however, do not apply active skincare for 5 days after treatment. A gentle exfoliating facial scrub is recommended after 3-5 days post-peel to buff away the flaking or peeling skin. It is not recommended to pick or peel at your skin during the flaking/peeling period as this may cause scarring and hyperpigmentation.
